Men with Facial Hair
Facial hair is inspired by Heaney’s own experience of paternal loss when she was younger. She uses facial hair as a tool to clearly define her male subjects, blurring the boundaries between actual male influences in her life and acquaintances. The portraits become less complete, representing the healing process, acceptance and realization that a loved one cannot be replaced.
